Pasco County Clerk & Comptroller issued the following announcement on December 16.
Pasco County's deputy clerks are relentless in their devotion to community nonprofit agencies, Habitat for Humanity among them. Friday, Financial Services leaders Manny Long (who serves on Habitat's board) and Matt Lazar -- along with their families -- took star turns in the 2021 Dade City Christmas Parade.
A report from our photojournalist correspondent Chris Mettler follows:
Manny Long and Matt Lazar, Financial Services director and assistant director, respectively, take great pleasure in participating in this annual event, and they do so as representatives of Habitat for Humanity of East & Central Pasco County.
Manny serves on the agency's board of directors; Matt’s wife, Crystal Lazar, is its president and CEO. (Incidentally, Office counselor Dennis Alfonso, always generous with his time and energy, also serves on the board.)
Habitat’s float is, of course, an efficient and well-constructed house, but just as popular are the characters who escort it through downtown Dade City. Starting on the north side of town, flanked by Matt, Manny, wife Cathy, and energetic and enthusiastic teenagers Kylie and Ethan, were, without doubt, among the parade’s highlights. Cathy was chic in a seasonal onesie, while the others wore inflatable gingerbread man costumes.
With Dade City’s temperature hovering around 73 degrees at the start of the parade, most of the crowd found the evening quite pleasant. The gingerbread men, however, with no ventilation, had to summon all their vigor to make sure they were a crowd-pleaser.
And a crowd-pleaser they were! Children of all ages screamed for them, high-fived them, clamored for once-in-a-lifetime photos, and eagerly grabbed up all the candy, t-shirts, and ornaments the Habitat Team had to give.
The .6-mile route from the north end of town to Church Street on the south side took about an hour, and by the end, everyone was making a plan for next year. It couldn’t have gone better or been more fun. Why? Because our Finance leadership puts the “fun” in “funds.”
