The Congressional Management Foundation (CMF) has named Rep. Gus Bilirakis as a finalist for two of its annual Democracy Awards. The awards acknowledge non-legislative achievements and performance in congressional offices. This year, Rep. Bilirakis has been selected as one of the top two finalists in the categories of Constituent Service and Constituent Accountability and Accessibility.
“As a Democracy Award finalist in two categories, the Rep. Bilirakis office is clearly one of the best in Congress,” said Bradford Fitch, President and CEO of the Congressional Management Foundation. “This designation demonstrates that Rep. Bilirakis has made a significant commitment to being the best public servant for his constituents. Rep. Bilirakis and his staff are to be congratulated for not only being a model for his colleagues in Congress, but for helping to restore trust and faith that our democratic institutions can work,” he added.
In response to this recognition, Congressman Bilirakis stated, “I’m humbled to once again be recognized for outstanding constituent service and communication as one of the top performers in Congress. I’m blessed with a top-notch team of professionals who share my passion for public service and work together to ensure continuous improvement.”
A total of fifteen House and Senate offices were honored as finalists across four categories: Constituent Service; Constituent Accountability and Accessibility; Innovation and Modernization; and "Life in Congress"- Workplace Environment. The winners will be selected by an external committee primarily comprised of former Members of Congress and congressional staff, with an announcement expected in July.
CMF cited several reasons for selecting Rep. Bilirakis as a finalist for these two awards, including the office's culture of excellence, formal procedures for managing constituent communications, regular tele-town halls on targeted topics, and innovative engagement strategies.
