U.S. Congressman Gus Bilirakis expressed his support for the appointment of U.S. Senator Marco Rubio as Secretary of State by President-Elect Donald J. Trump. In a statement, Bilirakis praised Rubio's leadership and policymaking skills.
"I am thrilled that my good friend and fellow Floridian, Senator Marco Rubio has been named the incoming Secretary of State by President-Elect Donald Trump," Bilirakis stated. He described Rubio as an "America-First leader" who understands the significance of leading from a strong position.
Bilirakis highlighted Rubio's awareness of global threats and his ability to build alliances with international partners. He noted that Rubio, being a Cuban-American whose family fled their homeland, is particularly conscious of the dangers posed by socialism and oppressive regimes.
"I know that Senator Rubio will make a tremendous Secretary of State who will prioritize American interests around the globe, strengthen partnerships with our allies and help facilitate stability and peace wherever possible," said Bilirakis. He added that he looks forward to working with him in this new role.
