Pasco County Clerk & Comptroller issued the following announcement on March 14.
SUNSHINE WEEK HONORS OUR CONSTANT COMMITMENT
This week, Florida Court Clerks & Comptrollers (FCCC) proudly celebrate 2022 Sunshine Week. Sunshine Week (March 13–19) is an annual recognition week honoring Florida’s commitment to transparency and government in the sunshine.
"Ensuring the transparency of the business of government and the courts is vitally important to our Office," said Pasco County Clerk & Comptroller Nikki Alvarez-Sowles. "Every day, my team strives to honor both the letter and the spirit of Florida's laws regarding government in the sunshine. Being open, above-board, responsive, and committed to government accountability all are woven into our vision of providing exceptional services for a better community."
“Clerks of Court are excited to celebrate Sunshine Week and highlight the instrumental role we play in supporting transparency in county government and the court system,” said Manatee County Clerk and Comptroller and FCCC President Angelina “Angel” Colonneso, Esq. “As records custodians, and toward our shared vision of being premiere models of exceptional government, we are constantly looking at ways to improve access to records with new technologies and provide exceptional customer service. This Sunshine Week, I encourage you to learn about the records we provide and how to view and request information you may be interested in.”
“As Clerks of Court, one of our highest priorities is ensuring access to public records and promoting government accountability,” said Clay County Clerk of Court and Comptroller and immediate past FCCC President Tara S. Green. “Whether you are asking for a copy of your marriage license at the courthouse or going online to view records for a legal case, Clerks of Court are constantly evaluating these processes for improvements that promote transparency. We are once again thrilled to highlight our commitment to accurate record keeping, public information access and security, and government in the sunshine during the 2022 Sunshine Week.”
Clerks of Court uphold transparency in county government and the court system with accurate recordkeeping and efficient reporting. They are committed to serving the public and maintaining access to records and information.
Toward this responsibility, Clerks of Court provide various services throughout Florida that include providing citizens access to public documents such as court records, ensuring access to county financial information, offering fraud services for the public to shed light on allegations of fraud and waste, and enhancing access to public information by harnessing new technologies to provide more official documents and services online.
Below are several quick tips for requesting public records from your local Clerk of Court’s office:
- Get to know the contacts for requesting public records. Many offices have a Public Records liaison to process public records requests. If you request public records frequently, it may be helpful to contact these individuals. At the Office of Pasco County Clerk & Comptroller, many public records requests can be addressed quickly and efficiently by emailing publicrecordsrequest@pascoclerk.com.
- Be precise with your public records requests. Putting your request in writing and being specific with your request helps improve efficiency. Broad requests may increase the time to fulfill and narrow requests may not include the information you’re looking for.
- Most public records are available online. For most offices, records are accessible electronically. For a list of records available online, please visit your Clerk of Court’s website or contact their office.
- Don’t know what you’re looking for? Just ask. If you don’t know exactly what you’re looking for, Public Records liaisons are here to assist you with formulating the most appropriate request to fulfil your needs.
