Washington, DC - The College Football Playoff Selection Committee recently faced backlash for excluding an undefeated, Power Five Conference Champion from the College Football Playoff (CFP). The committee's decision to drop the Florida State University (FSU) Seminoles from their previous 4th place ranking to 5th place prevented them from competing for the CFP National Championship.

In response to this controversial move, Chairman Gus Bilirakis of the Innovation, Data and Commerce Subcommittee in the U.S. House of Representatives expressed his concerns. Chairman Bilirakis, who has jurisdiction over the regulation of commercial practices, including sports-related matters, emphasized the importance of transparency in the CFP selection process.

"This is a huge blow to the student-athletes who have put their hearts and minds into completing a perfect season," said Chairman Bilirakis. "While I understand there are many factors the Committee may consider, it's puzzling why the end results on the field are not their top priority as they are the only objective measurement between teams."

Chairman Bilirakis questioned the decision to elevate teams with lesser records over an undefeated Power 5 conference champion. He highlighted the significant financial implications of the CFP, with millions of dollars at stake, and emphasized the need for transparency in the selection process.

"When there are millions of dollars hanging in the balance, and with many of these funds slated to support publicly funded schools, there must be more transparency in the process when deciding who is in and who is out," Chairman Bilirakis stated. "To ensure full transparency, I respectfully request that the CFP Selection Committee and separately the NCAA schedule a briefing with my office."

Chairman Bilirakis's demand for full transparency reflects the concerns of many college football fans and supporters of the FSU Seminoles. As the debate continues over the fairness and integrity of the CFP selection process, it remains to be seen how the CFP and NCAA will respond to Chairman Bilirakis's request for a briefing.

The controversy surrounding the exclusion of an undefeated, Power Five Conference Champion from the CFP has reignited discussions about the need for reform in college football. With the stakes higher than ever and the public's demand for transparency growing, the CFP and NCAA will face increasing pressure to address these concerns and ensure a fair and objective selection process for future college football playoffs.
