The Office of Congressman Gus Bilirakis, in collaboration with the West Pasco Dental Association and Pasco-Hernando State College, has announced the annual Stars, Stripes, and Smiles event. Scheduled for November 8, 2024, in New Port Richey, this initiative aims to provide free urgent dental care to 75 military veterans residing in Pasco County. These services are intended for veterans experiencing untreated dental pain and infections.
Veterans seeking these dental services are encouraged to contact Congressman Bilirakis's office at 727-232-2921 to register for treatment. The services will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Media representatives are invited to attend and disseminate information to veterans who may benefit from this assistance.
Oral health is crucial for overall well-being; however, dental care through the Veterans Affairs (VA) system is limited to those who are 100% disabled or have service-connected injuries affecting their oral health. "Our Veterans have sacrificed so much in defense of our freedom and they deserve access to high quality health care," stated Congressman Gus Bilirakis. He added that he is advocating for legislation to expand veterans' access to dental care but expressed gratitude towards the local dentists volunteering their services: "They are ensuring our heroes receive immediate attention and I am honored to help organize this important event."
The event will offer professional dental cleanings, fillings, and tooth extractions. Dr. Zacharias Kalarickal of the West Pasco Dental Association commented on the initiative: "These heroes deserve a system of care to ensure their oral health care needs are met. Until that can become a reality, it is our professional privilege to serve this special segment of our community."
