Gus Bilirakis, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 12th district, shared several updates through his social media platform. Bilirakis, who has served in Congress since 2007 after succeeding Michael Bilirakis, provided insights on various issues including border security, educational achievements, and legislative advancements.
On April 29, 2025, Bilirakis commented on border security achievements during the early days of President Trump's administration. He noted, "One of President Trump’s biggest success stories in his first 100 days is enhanced border security. U. S. Customs and Border Protection now has total control of the border, with daily border encounters down by 93%. March of 2025 saw the lowest monthly number of border."
Later that day, on April 29, 2025, Bilirakis extended his congratulations to an academic team. He wrote, "Congratulations to Lacoochee Elementary School’s Odyssey of the Mind Team for advancing to the World Finals Competition. We are rooting for your continued success!"
The following day, on April 30, 2025, Bilirakis shared about legislative progress regarding privacy and digital content. He mentioned, "This week, the House passed the Take it Down Act, which I helped shepherd through the House. This critical legislation will criminalize the publication of non-consensual, sexually exploitative images—including AI-generated deepfakes—and require platforms to remove images within."
Gus Bilirakis, 60, who was born in Gainesville, Florida, and now resides in Palm Harbor, has a long tenure of public service, including time spent in the Florida House of Representatives from 1998 to 2006. He holds a BA from the University of Florida and a JD from Stetson University.
