While most are sending thoughts, prayers and donations to those impacted by Hurricane Ian, there are those looking to profit from this tragedy. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency (CISA) is warning computer users to remain on alert for malicious cyber activity targeting potential disaster victims and charitable donors.
CISA says scam artists often send fraudulent emails containing malicious links or attachments. It is warning Floridians to be wary of such unsolicited messages as well as social media pleas, texts or door to door solicitations related to Hurricane Ian.
If you believe you have been a victim of cybercrime, file a complaint with the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) at www.ic3.gov.
